XGP Price Hike Won’t Affect Everyone — Some Regions Still Renew at Original Price

Recently, Microsoft announced some changes to the Xbox Game Pass service, introducing three tiers: BasicStandard, and Ultimate. The Basic plan costs $9.99 per month (approximately ¥71.1 RMB), the Standard plan is $14.99 (about ¥106.7 RMB), and the Ultimate plan has increased from $19.99 to $29.99 (around ¥213.5 RMB).

However, according to Insider Gaming, not everyone will see their prices increase. Emails sent to Xbox Game Pass users in the EU and other regions show that the new price increase — from €18 to €27 — only applies to new users or those without auto-renewal turned on.

The email says:

“You may have recently heard about changes to Xbox Game Pass subscription prices. For now, these increases only apply to new purchases and won’t affect your current subscription as long as auto-renewal is active. If you cancel and sign up again, you’ll be charged the new price. If we ever need to make changes to your account, we’ll give you at least 60 days’ notice so you can decide whether to cancel or switch plans.”

After these emails were sent out, many users on Reddit confirmed receiving the same message. One user shared:

“It’s the same here in Germany with PC Game Pass. I’ve been paying €9.99, and even though the price increased to €11.99, I still pay €9.99. The email confirmed my price will stay the same, not jump to €14.99.”

Later, Xbox PR head Kari Perez confirmed this, saying:

“Users in certain regions will keep renewing at their current prices. We haven’t made any changes to the recent Game Pass updates. In some regions, existing subscribers will continue renewing at their local prices where required, and we’ll always notify them in advance before any price changes take effect.”
