SEGA’s RGG Studio recently revealed that Yakuza Kiwami 3 will be far more than a simple visual upgrade — it’s a complete modern rebuild.

In addition to improved visuals and gameplay systems, the remake will include a brand-new expansion story called Dark Ties, which focuses on the rise of the series' antagonist, Yoshitaka Mine.

In an interview with ThisIsGame, director Ryousuke Horii explained that this remake gave the team a chance to “revisit parts of the original that couldn’t be fully realised back then,” enriching both character emotions and story details. He emphasised that the remake will feature many new scenes to make the story “more passionate and emotionally powerful,” without altering the main plot events.

Some fans expressed concern that adding new content could disrupt the original pacing. Horii responded by saying the team’s goal is to deepen the story, not rewrite it. RGG Studio aims to make Yakuza 3 stay true to its classic spirit while delivering a narrative experience that meets modern storytelling standards.
