Battlefield 6 Devs Explain Why the Game’s Destruction System Looks So Good and Runs So Smoothly

According to PC Gamer, the development team behind Battlefield 6 recently discussed the game’s impressive destruction effects and shared some insights into how they achieved them.

A PC Gamer editor praised the system, saying:

“What’s really surprising about Battlefield 6’s destruction is that it’s not only stunning but also well-optimised. Even when the map is collapsing around you, the game still runs smoothly and consistently.”

Technical Director Christian Buhl explained:

“Maybe the only real magic is that we’re no longer supporting PS4 or Xbox One. That means we’ve raised the baseline for memory and CPU performance. With that higher floor, everything benefits — performance naturally improves across the board. We don’t have to bend over backwards anymore trying to make the game run on PS4.”

He added:

“Beyond that, it’s just a ton of hard work — testing destruction, optimising every area, again and again. Of course, we’re using the Frostbite Engine, and Frostbite was built for Battlefield. It’s made for destruction — those features are at the engine’s core. When I say we test and fix things, sometimes it literally means the team fixes them by hand. There’s no magic bullet here — just lots of testing, iteration, and effort.”
