According to a report by U.S. website MacRumors, Apple’s latest smartphones—the iPhone 17 series and iPhone Air—may occasionally display black squares and white curved lines when taking photos. The company has identified a technical solution and plans to release a software update to fix the issue.
The problem was first discovered by a CNN reporter during a review of the iPhone Air. When taking photos in strong lighting conditions, black squares and white curves appeared in the images. The issue was particularly noticeable when bright LED displays shone directly into the camera lens. At a concert, the reporter observed that about one in every ten photos contained partial blackouts or white curved lines. These anomalies were caused by light interference from stage LED screens, which disrupted the camera sensor’s recording and affected the final image quality.
Apple stated that this is an extremely rare situation, triggered only when very bright LED lighting shines directly into the camera.
