Apple is pushing ahead with the development of its first foldable iPhone. According to Nikkei Asia, the company has begun discussions with suppliers about conducting trial production of the foldable iPhone in Taiwan, with the goal of moving to mass production in India next year.
The report said Apple aims to launch a new generation of iPhones in 2026, targeting around 95 million units—an increase of more than 10% compared with this year. The long-anticipated foldable model may be key to reaching that target.
Sources noted that Apple intends to leverage Taiwanese suppliers’ engineering expertise and industrial ecosystem to set up a small-scale trial production line in Taiwan. This line will be used for device testing, parameter adjustments, and fine-tuning the foldable iPhone’s manufacturing process. Once the production workflow is finalized, Apple plans to replicate it in India for mass production. A potential site in a northern Taiwanese city has already been identified by suppliers for the trial line.
