Resident Evil Requiem Story

The story is set about 30 years after the destruction of Raccoon City in 1998. Grace Ashcroft, an FBI technical analyst, is sent to investigate mysterious deaths at the Wrenwood Hotel - the same place where her mother Alyssa died 8 years prior. This investigation eventually leads her to the desolate and quarantined ruins of Raccoon City.

The game's tagline, "Requiem for the dead. Nightmare for the living", sets the tone for what Capcom describes as a new era of survival horror, where Grace will be pursued by a monster throughout the game, similar to Mr X and Lady Dimitrescu from previous entries.

Who is Grace in Resident Evil 9?

Grace Ashcroft is a technical analyst for the FBI who has been described as shy, timid, and easily frightened. She is the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, an investigative reporter who survived the 1998 Raccoon City incident but was murdered in 2020 by an unidentified hooded assailant while pursuing an investigation. Director Kōshi Nakanishi explained that Grace was chosen as the protagonist partly because Leon Kennedy wouldn't be a good fit for horror - he wouldn't be scared by things like buckets falling, making him "quite a bad match for horror."

According to insider reports, Resident Evil Requiem will be the final numbered game in the series, though not the end of Resident Evil games altogether.
