Two new Halo titles are reportedly in development, with both aiming for a 2026 release to coincide with the franchise's 25th anniversary. These projects include a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved and a new multiplayer-focused game known as Project Ekur.

🛡️Halo: Combat Evolved Remake (Campaign-Only)

According to insider RebsGaming, development for the Halo: Combat Evolved remake began in 2023, utilising Unreal Engine 5 and Bungie's original Blam engine technology. The remake is expected to feature only the single-player campaign, with no multiplayer component. This approach aims to deliver a more focused and polished experience, though it may disappoint fans of the original's influential multiplayer mode.

Interestingly, the remake is rumoured to be released on multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, marking a significant departure from the franchise's Xbox exclusivity. This cross-platform release could broaden the game's accessibility and reach a wider audience.

🎮 Project Ekur (Multiplayer Live-Service Game)

Project Ekur, developed by Certain Affinity, is a new multiplayer-focused Halo title. Initially known as Project Tatanka, it has been rebranded and is reportedly built using Unreal Engine 5. The game is designed as a live-service experience, drawing inspiration from titles like Fortnite, and is expected to support cross-platform play between Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

A beta version of Project Ekur is anticipated to launch in 2026, with a full release to follow. This title aims to revitalise the Halo multiplayer experience, introducing new mechanics and content to engage both new players and long-time fans.

🔜 Upcoming Announcements

Fans can expect official details about these projects during the Halo World Championship 2025, scheduled for October 24–26 in Seattle. Xbox head Phil Spencer has hinted at the return of a "classic" title in 2026, fueling speculation that this refers to the Halo: Combat Evolved remake.
