On September 4, PC Gamer reported that YouTube channel David Hallsted uploaded five videos showcasing more than 20 minutes of gameplay footage from Bethesda Game Studios’ long-canceled title Prey 2.
The original Prey, released in 2006, was a first-person shooter that earned a cult following. Its sequel, Prey 2, was set in a sprawling alien metropolis where players would step into the role of a sci-fi bounty hunter tasked with tracking down targets. However, after years of development struggles, studio acquisitions, and IP transfers, the project was officially canceled in 2014—leaving fans deeply disappointed.
The account name “David Hallsted” is believed to possibly belong to Dave Halsted, former lead level designer at Prey developer Human Head Studios, lending credibility to the leak.
Among the five videos, the highlight is a nine-and-a-half–minute demo. It shows the player hunting a target in a neon-lit alien undercity, scanning pedestrians to match bounty information, and deploying a range of futuristic gadgets, including mini-nuke grenades, laser-guided rockets, and electrified capture lassos.
The footage even depicts morally ambiguous actions, such as pushing innocent aliens off ledges or killing a target’s bodyguards before negotiations to simplify intel gathering. These details underscore the original vision for Prey 2: a cold, morally gray bounty-hunting experience set against a cyberpunk-inspired alien backdrop.
