The iPod era of gaming was brief but memorable, tucked inside Apple’s two-decade run of iconic music players. Over the years, Apple released 54 official games for the iPod clickwheel—quirky little titles that seemed destined to be lost to time. Thanks to game preservationists, though, the entire library has now been saved.

As reported by Ars Technica, the iPod Clickwheel Games Preservation Project—led by archivist Olsro—was recently completed after tracking down a copy of Real Soccer 2009. The effort involved finding iPod owners who still had the games installed and syncing them to a Virtual Machine master library, ensuring that others can once again access and enjoy them.

"This means this whole part from the early 2000s will remain with us forever," Olsro said, relieved to see the project finally reach completion.

The preserved games are compatible with multiple devices, including iPod Classic (5G through 7G) and iPod Nano (3G, 4G, and 5G). Detailed instructions for accessing the Virtual Machine are now available on GitHub, giving retro enthusiasts the tools they need to revive the forgotten library.

The full list spans puzzle favorites, licensed tie-ins, and even big-name classics like BombermanMs. Pac-Man, and Sonic the Hedgehog. Other highlights include PeggleTetrisUNOSpore Origins, and Song Summoner: The Unsung Heroes.

For anyone nostalgic about the days of spinning a wheel to control Vortex or launching a quick round of Texas Hold’emon the bus, the collection is a rare and welcome preservation victory.
