Is Wolfenstein: New Colossus banned in Germany?Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus system requirements

2017’s Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus remains one of the standout shooters of the past decade—an over-the-top Nazi-slaying adventure that even puts BJ Blazkowicz face-to-face with Adolf Hitler himself. But according to the devs, that infamous encounter could have been even more graphic.

Speaking to Noclip (via IGN), MachineGames studio director Jerk Gustafsson revealed that the original version of the scene nearly included a full shot of Hitler’s penis. The moment would have taken place during the audition sequence, as Hitler drunkenly staggered about, vomiting and urinating into a bucket.

Game director Jens Matthies added that he ran the idea past a Bethesda production executive, only to be advised against it. The final game still shows Hitler in a pitiful and grotesque state, but without quite as much… exposure.

In hindsight, maybe that was the right call. Beyond being jarringly explicit, Hitler’s anatomy has long been the subject of grim historical rumor. As it stands, MachineGames left the dictator humiliated without going all the way.

Of course, players who really want to take aim at Hitler’s lower half can look to the Sniper Elite series, which has long featured a tongue-in-cheek DLC mission allowing players to assassinate the Führer—sometimes with a well-placed groin shot that confirms he only had one testicle.

As for MachineGames, the studio most recently released Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, with its DLC The Order of Giants available now. The future of Wolfenstein remains uncertain, though spinoff Youngblood hinted that the next entry could focus on an older BJ Blazkowicz.
