The development team behind Ghost of Yotei is embracing the opportunity presented by Rockstar’s decision to delay GTA 6 to 2026, as it gives Sucker Punch’s game more breathing room in the fall season.
Nate Fox, co-creative director of Ghost of Yotei, was asked by MinnMaxx if the studio celebrated when Rockstar announced the delay in May 2025. Fox responded humorously, "We're all still hungover. Multi-month hangover. That was a great day."
Sony officially announced Ghost of Yotei’s release date for October 2, 2025, in April. Just a month later, in May 2025, Rockstar confirmed that GTA 6 would be delayed to May 2026. This shift in timing caused a ripple effect across the industry, with several developers reportedly rethinking their 2025 release schedules. Given the expected massive success of GTA 6, one industry veteran even dubbed it the industry's first "AAAAA" game, capable of "blotting out the sun."
A Second Playable Character and DLC?
At one point during the interview, Fox was asked if Ghost of Yotei would feature just one playable character, Atsu. In response, Fox took a sip from his drink while coyly staring into the camera, leaving the question unanswered. The moment was clearly teasing, and fans are now speculating about the possibility of additional playable characters.
When asked about the potential for single-player DLC for Ghost of Yotei, Fox remained silent and gave a mischievous look. While this doesn’t confirm anything, it certainly leaves the door open for speculation.
Additionally, we know that Ghost of Yotei will include a multiplayer Legends mode, which will offer cooperative multiplayer missions set in a supernatural world. This mode will be free DLC for anyone who purchases the base game and is set to launch in 2026.
"You Will See Her Butt"
One memorable moment from Ghost of Tsushima was when Jin Sakai enjoyed a relaxing bath in an onsen, which became a fan-favorite scene. Fox has confirmed that Ghost of Yotei will feature a similar scene, but this time with the protagonist, Atsu. "Atsu will also be getting an onsen, and you will see her butt," Fox joked.
Infamous Remasters "Would Be Great"
Fox also touched briefly on Sucker Punch’s Infamous series, mentioning that it "would be great" if another studio took on the task of remastering the games. The Infamous series debuted in 2009, with Infamous 2 following in 2011. Infamous: Second Son was released in 2014, with Fox serving as director for all three installments.
