Square Enix has officially confirmed that Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake has gone gold and is ready for release. First unveiled in June 2024, the remake revisits the original Dragon Quest (1986) and Dragon Quest II (1987), bringing the classics to life with a modern HD-2D visual style.

The game is scheduled to launch on October 30, 2024, across Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The Steam version will unlock one day later, on October 31. On the same date, Square Enix will also release the Loto Trilogy collection, which includes the remakes of Dragon Quest I, II, and the highly anticipated III.

As one of Japan’s most influential RPG series, Dragon Quest has been a cornerstone of the genre since its debut. Created by Yuji Horii and developed by his studio Armor Project, the series is published in Japan by Square Enix (formerly Enix), with international distribution often handled by Nintendo.

The original Dragon Quest was first released in Japan on May 27, 1986, before arriving in North America in August 1989 under the title Dragon Warrior. Its sequel, Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line, launched in Japan in 1987 and was later released in North America in 1990 as Dragon Warrior II.

With the upcoming HD-2D remake, Square Enix aims to reintroduce the origins of the legendary franchise to both longtime fans and a new generation of players.
