According to a report from media outlet Twisted Voxel, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Silent Hill 2 Remake may be heading to additional platforms in the future.
Industry insider NateTheHate recently revealed that Square Enix plans to bring Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. Meanwhile, Konami’s Silent Hill 2 Remake could expand to more platforms once its timed exclusivity agreement with Sony expires this October.
Reports suggest that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will rely on DLSS technology to achieve stable performance on the Switch 2, similar to optimizations seen in Star Wars Outlaws. Xbox players may get access as early as next year. Additionally, Final Fantasy VII Remake has already been confirmed for a Winter 2025 release on Switch 2, with the exact launch date to be announced by Nintendo.
As for Silent Hill 2 Remake, Nate indicated that due to the exclusivity deal with Sony still being in effect, other platform releases cannot be officially discussed yet. Developed by Bloober Team and published by Konami, the remake launched for PS5 and PC in October 2024, earning praise for its atmosphere, visuals, and soundtrack. It surpassed 2 million copies sold within a short period. While a Switch 2 version remains uncertain due to Unreal Engine 5’s demanding requirements, an Xbox version is considered highly likely.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth first debuted on PS5 in February 2024 and will arrive on PC in January 2025. As the second installment of the remake trilogy, it has received widespread acclaim and multiple Game of the Year awards. Silent Hill 2 Remake faithfully recreates the 2001 classic while modernizing its visuals and gameplay, earning strong reception in the market.
At present, neither Square Enix nor Konami has issued an official statement regarding these potential new platform releases.
