"We're all still hungover": Ghost of Yotei director says GTA 6 delay had Sucker Punch celebrating like rockstars – "That was a great day"

No one wants to go head-to-head with GTA 6.

For a while, Sucker Punch seemed to be staring down that exact nightmare scenario: releasing Ghost of Yotei in the same general launch window as what will almost certainly be the biggest video game release in history.

Originally slated for late 2025, GTA 6 would have landed just weeks after Ghost of Yotei’s confirmed October 2 launch. Not exactly a favorable position for Sucker Punch. But then came the announcement—Rockstar pushed GTA 6 back to May 26, 2026. Suddenly, the clouds parted, and things started looking a whole lot brighter for the studio behind Ghost of Tsushima.

Speaking with MinnMax, Ghost of Yotei co-creative director Nate Fox admitted the team didn’t just breathe a sigh of relief—they threw a party. And not a small one.
"We're all still hungover, multi-month hangover," Fox joked. "That was a great day."

It’s not hard to see why. Ghost of Yotei is already one of the most anticipated PlayStation releases on the horizon, but let’s be real—no game on earth is equipped to compete with the sheer hype, cultural dominance, and massive budget of GTA 6. By putting a few months of breathing room between the two releases, Sucker Punch has given its samurai epic a real shot at thriving—financially and in the spotlight.

So here’s to Ghost of Yotei’s big day. Cheers, Sucker Punch—now go drink some electrolytes.
