Super Mario Galaxy Switch Collection And New Amiibo Are Up For Preorder

Estimated read time 2 min read

Nintendo fans won’t have to wait much longer to revisit two of Mario’s greatest 3D adventures. Preorders are now live for the Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 Collection, launching October 2 for both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. The collection was announced during September’s Nintendo Direct as part of Mario’s 40th Anniversary celebrations.

Super Mario Galaxy Collection Details

  • Price: $70 (physical + digital)
  • Release date: October 2, 2025
  • Included titles: Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2
  • Retailers: Amazon, Walmart, Target, Best Buy

The collection saves you $10 versus buying each game individually from the eShop ($40 apiece). Players will also get a free Switch 2 performance upgrade at launch.

Performance Modes:

  • Switch docked: 1080p
  • Switch 2 docked: 4K at higher framerates
  • Handheld: optimized for both systems

Both games feature motion controls for Wii purists and conventional stick/button controls for modern players. Nintendo has also added an Assist Mode, making the games more accessible for newcomers.

Amiibo Preorders

Two new Super Mario Galaxy Amiibo figures are planned for April 2, 2026—timed to release alongside the Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

  • Mario & Luma Amiibo – $40
  • Rosalina & Lumas Amiibo – $40

These feature more elaborate bases than typical Amiibo figures, making them especially collectible.

Rosalina’s Storybook (Hardcover)

  • Price: $25
  • Release date: November 25, 2025
  • Publisher: Dark Horse

Nintendo is expanding Rosalina’s lore by releasing Rosalina’s Storybook as a physical hardcover. The book includes original chapters from Galaxy as well as newly added material, complete with full-color illustrations.

Why It Matters

This is the first time Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be playable on modern Nintendo hardware. Galaxy 1 was included in the limited 3D All-Stars Collection (now discontinued), but Galaxy 2 never made the jump—until now. Together, these remasters serve as a bridge to next year’s Super Mario Galaxy Movie, ensuring fans are fully caught up on Rosalina, Luma, and Mario’s cosmic adventures.

💡 Player Tip
If you’re planning to buy both the Galaxy Collection and the upcoming Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, preorder physical copies at the same retailer. Many stores (like Best Buy and Walmart) often bundle or surprise players with cross-franchise preorder bonuses later, and early orders are usually upgraded automatically.
