Modezone reports that Mike Booth, creator of Left 4 Dead, officially announced on Reddit yesterday (September 1, 2025) that his team is developing a brand-new four-player co-op shooter titled Project Tacoma. Booth also opened sign-ups for early playtesting.

According to Booth, the new title builds on the successful foundation of Left 4 Dead* while pushing forward co-op mechanics he has long wanted to refine. Although the game remains in early development, with no story details or gameplay systems revealed yet, fans widely speculate it may revisit a post-apocalyptic setting.

“If you’re interested in joining us and helping shape this game in its early stages, we’d love to have your participation,” Booth wrote in his post. Testing slots will be limited, however, and not all applicants will gain access. Players can apply through the official Bad Robot Games website.

The announcement sparked excitement across the community. Many longtime Left 4 Dead fans flooded the Reddit thread, expressing optimism that Booth’s involvement will ensure the game captures the core spirit of co-op survival shooters.

Others remain more cautious, noting that concrete gameplay footage will be key to evaluating the project’s true potential. As of now, no publisher, platforms, or release window have been confirmed.
