Team Cherry’s approach to marketing Hollow Knight: Silksong has always been… unusual. Instead of a steady stream of updates, the studio mostly opted for radio silence—leaving the fandom to spiral into endless memes and silkposting. But according to someone who knows them well, the silence doesn’t mean there’s nothing to show.
David Kazi, the original Hollow Knight technical director and now head of indie studio Ember League, recently reflected on his time working with Team Cherry in an interview with The New York Times.
"The work ethic is off the charts," Kazi said of the small Adelaide-based team. "If they're not talking to anyone right now, I bet they're over at the office working on stuff."
And that tracks. Team Cherry’s Ari Gibson recently teased that Silksong has an “ambitious plan” for future DLC, saying the most exciting question now is “what can we add to it next?” The studio has also promised to clean up the game’s rough Simplified Chinese translation, which has been the source of a wave of negative reviews.
Of course, a little celebration might be in order, too—Silksong’s massive Steam launch certainly deserves it. But if Kazi’s right, the devs are probably already back at their desks, building whatever comes next.
