According to a September 11 report, Borderlands 4 will be released on September 12 (tomorrow), with the Switch 2 version launching on October 3. The Steam price for the game in the China region starts at 298 RMB. Global media reviews have now been unlocked.
The game holds a Metacritic score of 84 for the PC version (currently collected from 65 media outlets). IGN rated the game 8/10, praising its open-world design, which refreshes the gameplay experience.

After the mixed reception of Borderlands 3, Gearbox has finally restored the series' edge with Borderlands 4. The game truly becomes an open-world masterpiece for the first time. Players can freely explore the four major regions of the planet Kyros, completing side quests, time-limited challenges, collecting items, and solving puzzles.
The game offers a wide range of exploration tools, including a grappling hook to help players climb to high places, a glider for flying over vast terrains, and vehicles that can be summoned at any time, eliminating the need to constantly find transport stations. Such an open-world experience is still quite rare in the first-person shooter genre.
Of course, new attempts come with some issues: players may still encounter "invisible walls" and areas that cannot be climbed during exploration. The PC version's technical performance also requires optimization, and there are some bugs that affect the co-op experience, but these are minor flaws that don't detract from the overall experience.
Overall, Borderlands 4 successfully injects fresh energy into the series. The combat pace is faster, the action is freer, and the enemy designs are more diverse. The story retains the series' usual absurd humor while offering a more solid narrative experience. Although the open-world implementation is still a bit rough in places, and occasional bugs and performance issues may affect immersion, the game overall represents significant progress.
