On September 12, during tonight’s Nintendo Direct presentation, Fire Emblem: A Thousand Colors was revealed. The game is scheduled for release in 2026 and will launch on the Switch 2 platform.
The Fire Emblem series is a line of tactical role-playing games developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. The very first entry, Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, was released in 1990 for the Famicom. It was originally conceived and designed by video game producer Shouzou Kaga and created with three students as a doujin (fan-made) project. Its success led to the birth of the series.

The franchise combines the strategic gameplay of tactics-based games with the story progression and character development of role-playing games. Each battle takes place on a grid-based map, using a turn-based system where turns alternate between allies, enemies, and neutral units. Players can control a set number of characters through both main story missions and side quests.
