On September 12, Nintendo officially announced during its ongoing Direct presentation that a collection of classic Virtual Boy VR headset games will join the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service starting February 17, 2026, supporting both Switch and Switch 2. However, players will need to purchase additional accessories to experience these classic games.

Nintendo revealed that the accessories will come in two versions: one replicates the original 1995 Virtual Boy design, into which players can insert the Switch or Switch 2; the other is a more affordable cardboard version, similar to the previous Nintendo Labo VR cardboard kit.

According to the introduction, the first batch of Virtual Boy classic games launching on NSO includes Mario’s Tennis, Galactic Pinball, and Teleroboxer. Nintendo confirmed that a total of 15 titles will gradually roll out in the future, including classics like Virtual Boy Wario Land and V-Tetris.

Public information shows that Virtual Boy is regarded as one of Nintendo’s most controversial hardware products. Released in 1995, it was the first console in history capable of displaying stereoscopic 3D graphics. Players could use the headset to see 3D game visuals rendered on a red monochrome display. By early 1996, since the Virtual Boy failed to meet sales expectations, Nintendo discontinued its software releases and hardware production. During its entire lifecycle, the Virtual Boy only had a total of 22 games.
