Capcom President Haruhiro Tsujimoto: High PS5 Costs Hurt Monster Hunter Wilds Sales

In a recent interview with Nikkei Game, Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto discussed the performance of the company’s latest title, Monster Hunter Wilds.

As of the end of June 2025, the game has sold 477,000 units, ranking as Capcom’s ninth best-selling title of the quarter, just above its predecessor Monster Hunter Rise (389,000 units).

Tsujimoto admitted the results were “not particularly strong,” revealing that Capcom had expected most sales to come from the PlayStation 5 platform. However, he pointed out that the combined cost of a PS5 console, accessories, PS Plus subscription, and a copy of Monster Hunter Wilds exceeds 100,000 yen (approx. $680 USD)—a price barrier that has driven many players to stick with the more affordable and content-rich Monster Hunter: World and Monster Hunter Rise instead.

He further acknowledged that getting into the PS5 ecosystem requires “a significant financial investment,” and with many Monster Hunter fans being younger players without independent incomes, sales of Wilds have been further constrained.
