September 5 — Hollow Knight: Silksong was officially released last night, but it was quickly cracked and has already appeared on multiple piracy websites. As of IT Home’s report, the game has a 90.25% positive rating on Steam, with a peak of 535,213 concurrent players.
Unexpectedly, within Reddit’s piracy community “r/Piracy,” which has 2.3 million members, many voices are instead supporting the purchase of the genuine game. Quite a few players have said: the game is much cheaper than expected, has no Denuvo DRM, and true fans are willing to “vote with their wallets.”
Another user said: Silksong is the first time they’ve seen someone in Reddit’s piracy forum calling on people to buy the legitimate version. A reply in the comments read, “There’s honor among thieves.”
Some pointed out that Silksong has received special treatment in the piracy scene — although most players using pirated games never consider the price, Silksong is clearly an exception.
Currently, a large number of users in the Reddit piracy forum have joined this movement, openly stating they will not use the cracked resources of Silksong.
One player wrote: “This is a team of only 3–4 people, who have always treated their fans sincerely. Their PC version insists on not using DRM encryption, ensuring that all Hollow Knight fans can enjoy Silksong on their favorite platforms. If we are able to support them, now is the time.”
