Google’s AI Video Generator Veo 3 Adds 1080P and Vertical Video Support, Prices Slashed

September 10 – Google has updated its Veo 3 AI video generation tool to support 1080P resolution and vertical video format. According to an announcement on Google’s developer blog, both Veo 3 and its streamlined counterpart, Veo 3 Fast (which generates videos faster and at lower cost, though with reduced quality), now support the 9:16 aspect ratio — a format better suited for mobile devices and social media platforms.

The blog explains that developers can enable vertical video simply by setting the “aspectRatio” parameter to 9:16 in their API requests. This feature is mainly intended for developers building apps that incorporate Veo 3’s video generation capabilities. The update also allows generated video resolution to be upgraded from the previous 720P to 1080P, though reports note that 1080P is currently limited to videos in the 16:9 ratio.

Google also stated that Veo 3 and Veo 3 Fast have now “reached a stable state and are production-ready via the Gemini API,” while significantly reducing generation costs. Veo 3’s price has dropped from $0.75 per second to $0.40 per second, while Veo 3 Fast has gone from $0.40 per second to $0.15 per second.

The rollout of vertical video support is not entirely surprising — back in June, Google announced that Veo 3 support would be added to YouTube Shorts by late summer. Opening up this format to developers suggests that in the near future, Veo 3–generated content may appear more widely across vertical video platforms such as TikTok and Instagram Reels.
