In an interview with IGN, Devolver Digital co-founder Nigel Lowrie suggested that Grand Theft Auto 6 may mark a new milestone in gaming as the world’s first true “5A” title.

According to Lowrie, the game’s unprecedented scale and ambition go beyond traditional classifications like AAA or even so-called “4A” games. He emphasized that GTA 6 is not only bigger and more detailed than anything before but also poised to reshape the gaming industry on a cultural level, for better or worse.

“There are 3A games, and even 4A games,” Lowrie said. “But I think GTA 6 might be the first 5A game. Its size, ambition, cultural impact, and the sheer level of attention it commands are unmatched.”

The remark has sparked heated debate among players. Many criticized the label as overhyped, recalling Ubisoft’s marketing of Skull and Bones as a “4A” game despite its lukewarm reception. While GTA 6 remains one of the most anticipated titles in gaming history, some fans argue it’s too early to crown it as the first “5A” game. Others responded with humor, jokingly extending the “A” rating to absurd lengths.
