Renowned Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem recently shared several intriguing leaks, reaffirming that Leon S. Kennedy will be the protagonist of Resident Evil 9: Requiem, and that he’ll be officially revealed before the game launches.

He also offered additional plot hints. According to him, familiar characters from past entries will return, and Requiem is being framed as Leon’s “farewell”.
One bold claim: this entry will completely end Umbrella’s legacy, suggesting that the nefarious company central to the series’ mythos will meet final demise in the main timeline. Whether this signals a complete reboot or a fresh timeline reset for Resident Evil remains unclear.
Dusk Golem added that Capcom may still release titles set before RE9’s timeline, where Leon could return in a non-farewell capacity.
In any case, Resident Evil 9: Requiem appears to be primed as a narrative capstone—drawing the current era of the series to a close while paving the way for a new chapter.
Previously, game director Akihito Nakamura mentioned in interviews that after the events of RE8, returning to Raccoon City could be an opportune moment. With Resident Evil’s rich cast and profound lore, Capcom is keen to let fans revisit key moments. But their ambition goes beyond nostalgia: they want Requiem to be both a tribute and a fresh evolution of Raccoon City’s legacy.
