According to Game Developer, NetEase has closed its Austin, Texas–based studio T-Minus Zero Entertainment, with the news confirmed on August 29.
Co-founder Rich Vogel announced the closure on LinkedIn on August 26, writing:
“Every journey has its twists and turns, and our partnership with NetEase is coming to an end. We’re deeply grateful to NetEase for providing us with generous resources and support, giving us the budget we needed to turn our idea into a playable demo.
While our game made exciting progress, the current market environment has made it impossible for us to secure sufficient funding.
Looking ahead, our talented team will continue to explore new opportunities. It’s been an honor to be part of NetEase, and we’re thankful for everyone’s support.”
When asked for comment, a NetEase spokesperson confirmed the decision, stating:
“After much difficult consideration, we have decided to discontinue funding for T-Minus Zero. This decision was not made lightly. We are reevaluating our core business priorities and have already been in discussions with the studio’s staff regarding next steps.”
Founded in September 2023, T-Minus Zero was led by industry veteran Rich Vogel, known for his work at BioWare (Baldur’s Gate) and Bethesda (The Elder Scrolls). The studio’s debut project was pitched as a third-person online action game set in a brand-new sci-fi IP, with a mission to “create epic, immersive worlds for players around the globe to share.”
