Technology media outlet WccfTech reported that Sony has filed a copyright and trademark infringement lawsuit against Tencent, alleging that Tencent’s game Light of Motiram is a “slavish clone” of Sony’s Horizon series.
Sony submitted the lawsuit to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, claiming that Light of Motiram copies key elements of Horizon’s unique design, including gameplay mechanics, narrative themes, and artistic features.
Sony also pointed out that video game journalists have referred to Light of Motiram as a knockoff of Horizon, with some even dubbing it “Horizon Zero Originality.” Such reactions, Sony argued, highlight growing concerns over Tencent’s alleged infringement.
Sony is seeking damages (amount not publicly disclosed) and an injunction to prevent Tencent from further infringing its intellectual property. The case is being heard in the Northern District of California under case number 3:25-cv-06275. Sony is represented by Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe, while Tencent’s legal counsel has not yet been disclosed.
