According to Modezone, game developer GalewindG stated on X last week (August 31) that his recent request to list the game Heavy Hearts on Steam was rejected.
GalewindG later shared a screenshot from Steam’s developer management page, which read:
“Thank you for your patience during this additional review. Unfortunately, your application has not passed review. Please resubmit for approval later.
Reason for rejection:
We cannot allow adult-content games to use the ‘Early Access’ mode. You need to prepare the full version of the game without Early Access content and resubmit it when the game is ready for official release.”
It is worth noting that this policy only applies to newly listed adult games after August 30. Many existing adult titles on Steam are still in Early Access, and they appear to remain unaffected.
Back in mid-to-late July, Steam removed hundreds of extreme adult-themed games without any formal announcement, sparking controversy among users. Later, Valve responded to media inquiries by stating that the situation was due to requirements from payment channels/card networks.
Subsequently, the advocacy group Collective Shout admitted that they had pressured executives at PayPal, Visa, and Mastercard, criticizing these payment companies for allowing the sale of games involving rape, incest, and child sexual abuse content.
In turn, some players expressed dissatisfaction with Collective Shout’s actions and questioned Visa and Mastercard about why they were policing game platform content. Both companies responded by saying that while they would not judge lawful purchases, they would require merchants to implement appropriate control measures.
