Tech outlet NeoWin reported yesterday (September 10) that Battlefield 6 will reintroduce a battle royale mode, supporting 100 players split into 25 squads of four. With vehicles, tactical destruction, and other signature features, players will fight to be the last squad standing. Since the release of Battlefield V in 2018, which featured the 64-player “Firestorm” mode, the series has not revisited this kind of elimination gameplay.
When Battlefield 6 was first revealed last year, EA had already hinted at the mode’s return. Now, just weeks before launch, internal testing reports have confirmed details of the new mode. According to the development team, it combines Battlefield’s signature squad-based class system, tactical destruction, and vehicle warfare to deliver a high-risk, high-intensity experience.
The map is vast, allowing players to use transport and armored vehicles to quickly reach points of interest. True to the series, destructibility remains central—everything from walls to entire buildings can be demolished. Each match supports 100 players divided into 25 squads of four. Before the match begins, players select a class, shaping squad composition, but cannot change it afterward. Communication tools include ping systems, text, and voice chat, enabling coordinated teamwork. The map shrinks over time, forcing engagements.
The most striking change is the new danger zone mechanic. Unlike other games in the genre, Battlefield 6’s deadly zone cannot be crossed temporarily, used as cover, or exploited with repeated entry and exit. Stepping outside the safe area results in instant elimination. The developers call it “the deadliest battle royale zone in history,” a design choice that significantly heightens tactical urgency.
