Apple today rolled out the iOS / iPadOS 26.1 RC update (build number: 23B82) for iPhone and iPad users, arriving eight days after the previous Beta / RC release.

The highlight of this update is the introduction of a new “Liquid Glass” visual effect toggle. In iOS 26, the system defaulted to a highly transparent design. The new version allows users to switch between the default “Clear” effect and a “Tinted” effect with reduced transparency under Settings > Display & Brightness.

This adjustment primarily affects the background appearance of elements such as notifications and tab bars, catering to users’ individual preferences for interface clarity. The feature is also available on iPadOS and macOS.

Additionally, iOS 26.1 resolves a long-standing user frustration: the accidental activation of the lock screen camera. A new toggle under Settings > Camera now allows users to disable the swipe-right gesture that launches the camera from the lock screen for the first time in years.

For users who prefer launching the camera through shortcuts or physical buttons, this change effectively prevents accidental openings and improves overall usability and fluidity in daily use.

On the AI and ecosystem integration front, this update brings substantial enhancements.Apple Intelligence now supports eight additional languages, including Traditional Chinese, Danish, and Dutch.

Moreover, AirPods Live Translation has expanded to support Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Italian, and Korean. At the same time, Apple has officially rebranded its streaming service from “Apple TV+” to “Apple TV”, along with a new, more colorful app icon, symbolizing a refreshed brand image.

Finally, iOS 26.1 includes various minor optimizations. The Clock app introduces a “slide to unlock” gesture to dismiss alarms, reducing accidental shutoffs when users are half-awake. The Music app gains a swipe gesture to change tracks. A new “Local Capture” option in Settings lets users customize where screen recordings are stored. Collectively, these refinements enhance the system’s practicality and convenience.
