CNET Tests iPhone Air Battery Life: A Full Day of Regular Use, But Falls Short in High-Intensity Scenarios

Tech media outlet CNET published a blog post on October 28, detailing the battery life performance of the Apple iPhone 17 series and iPhone Air. Despite the iPhone Air's ultra-thin design, it is able to last a full day of regular use, even outperforming the Samsung Galaxy S25 series in terms of battery life.

In CNET's standardized lab tests, the iPhone Air’s battery performance showed mixed results. One test simulated a demanding video playback scenario: playing a video continuously for three hours over Wi-Fi at maximum screen brightness.

The results showed that the iPhone Air controlled energy efficiency very well, with only a 15% drop in battery life. This performance was identical to the more expensive iPhone 17 Pro and the previous iPhone 15 model. The details of the performance are as follows:

However, in another 45-minute endurance test designed to simulate high-intensity usage, the iPhone Air’s weaknesses became apparent. This test involved power-hungry activities like gaming, video streaming, and video calls. The test showed that the iPhone 17 Pro Max only lost 1% of its battery, whereas the iPhone Air lost 5%, showing a noticeable gap.

This suggests that for heavy users who regularly play large-scale games or participate in long video calls, the iPhone Air’s battery life could be a limitation.

Returning to more representative daily use scenarios, the iPhone Air’s performance was satisfactory. According to CNET senior tech reporter Abrar Al-Heeti, after using the iPhone Air as her primary device for several weeks, she found that after a full day of regular use, the phone typically had around 20% battery remaining. She remarked, "What’s impressive is that the iPhone Air consistently lasts an entire day."

In addition to battery life, charging speed is also a key concern for users. Test data shows that the iPhone Air’s charging efficiency is commendable. Using a 20W charger for a 30-minute wired charging test, the iPhone Air’s battery was restored to 49% from zero.
