Nintendo Switch 2 Battery Disaster Continues? Players Test "Sleep Mode" Battery Drain, Sparking Heated Discussion!

Estimated read time 2 min read

Have you already purchased the Switch 2? Although it has received positive reviews since its release, it is now facing an embarrassing issue—its battery life performance has not met expectations. Not only does the battery drain quickly during gameplay, but it also continues to consume significant power while in sleep mode, causing players to find their battery almost depleted when they turn on the device the next day. This problem is not an isolated case; it has been frequently discussed in Switch-related communities, with many players sharing their tests and experiences.

According to reports from several players, even when they did not play games and put the console into sleep mode, with flight mode enabled, automatic updates and Bluetooth turned off, the device still lost more than 10% of its power within a few hours, and in some cases, the battery was completely drained in just two days.

What’s even more puzzling is that some players noticed the battery level actually increased after the device had been turned off for two hours? This has led to suspicions that there might be errors in the battery readings or a bug in detection, rather than simply a battery aging issue. Some users attempted to back up data from the problematic device and transferred it to another unit that was functioning normally. However, the new device immediately exhibited the same power drain behavior, suggesting the issue might be related to system data or firmware state, rather than a hardware defect.

Additionally, some users tested that when the Ethernet cable was plugged in and the device was placed in its dock, even with the screen off, abnormal heating and power loss occurred, indicating that background connections and data transmissions might still be active. Other players pointed out that if the "Maintain Network Connection During Sleep" option was disabled in settings, the power drain situation improved significantly. However, this setting still didn’t fully resolve the issue, especially for players who are frequently on the go or have limited access to charging. The uncertainty of battery life has considerably affected the handheld gaming experience.
