Producer Reveals Original ‘Silent Hill’ Remake Project

The horror-classic series from Konami is experiencing an unprecedented resurgence, thanks to the successful release of Silent Hill 2 Remake and Silent Hill f, with Silent Hill: Townfall now eagerly anticipated. The original Silent Hill has also been confirmed for a remake.
Series producer Motoi Okamoto revealed via social media that the company's decision to announce all three titles simultaneously in October 2022 was strategic. He explained:

“Three years ago, we didn’t just announce one remake as a ‘test’, but instead we wanted players to feel how serious we were about reviving the series. At the same time, making remakes and new projects carries risk, but we wanted to show our commitment first. Only by announcing the new work can players see the future of the series. If the company takes a watch-and-see attitude, players will too. We needed to show we were serious and truly excite the fans.”

Okamoto emphasised that a single project alone would have difficulty reigniting fan enthusiasm—especially during a low point for the franchise. The bold decision in 2022 has paid off: the success of Silent Hill 2 Remake even helped trigger the remake plan for the original Silent Hill, exceeding expectations.

Key points to note:

  • The trilogy of announcements (two remakes + one new major title) was intentionally used to mark the return of the franchise and signal seriousness from Konami.
  • The Silent Hill 2 Remake (released 8 October 2024) achieved strong early sales and critical reception, becoming a cornerstone of the comeback.
  • A complete remake of the original Silent Hill has been officially confirmed, with the same developer relationship continuing.

• • Okamoto has indicated that the series is going into “full expansion mode” and each new entry will carry its own flavour, but will still tie back to what made Silent Hill unique.
