Nintendo is bringing back Kirby in a big way this fall, and not just with the long-awaited Kirby Air Riders for Switch 2. Alongside the game’s release on November 20, two premium Amiibo figure sets are launching, priced at $50 each. That’s higher than the usual Amiibo price point, but there’s a reason: each set includes both a character figure and their Air Ride machine.
- Kirby & Warp Star Amiibo – $50, releases November 20
- Banana Waddle Dee & Winged Star Amiibo – $50, releases November 20
Preorders are live now at Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy.
Why The Price Tag?
At $50, these Amiibo are Nintendo’s priciest figures yet. But technically, you’re getting two per set: one figure (Kirby or Waddle Dee) and their signature ride (Warp Star or Winged Star). It’s a bundle deal, and Nintendo is positioning them as double-packs rather than standard Amiibo singles.
In-Game Functions
The Kirby Air Riders Amiibo aren’t just collectibles—they tie directly into gameplay:
- Character Scan – Scanning Kirby or Waddle Dee alone trains and levels up a Figure Player (FP).
- Machine Scan – Placing them on their rides creates a Rider & Air Ride Machine.
- Cross-Compatibility – Own both sets? You can swap riders and machines (e.g., Kirby on Winged Star, Waddle Dee on Warp Star) to unlock alternative builds.
The Game Itself
Kirby Air Riders is a direct sequel to the cult-favorite 2003 GameCube racer Kirby Air Ride, once again under the direction of Masahiro Sakurai. Priced at $70, the game launches exclusively on Switch 2 with:
- Expanded City Trial Mode, now set on the floating island Skyah.
- New two-button controls (B = boost, Y = special moves/tricks).
- A playable roster including Kirby, King Dedede, Meta Knight, Bandana Waddle Dee, plus fan favorites like Magolor, Susie, and Chef Kawasaki.
- Multiplayer support: up to 4 players locally, 8 players wirelessly, or 16 players online via Switch Online.
Digital buyers should note the 25GB install size—more than 10% of Switch 2’s internal storage. Nintendo recommends expanding memory with microSD Express cards.
Accessory Reminder
- Joy-Con 2 (2-Pack) – $99 (after Nintendo’s August price increase)
- Samsung 256GB microSD Express – $59 at Amazon
- SanDisk 512GB microSD Express (Walmart exclusive) – $78
✨ Verdict: The Amiibo may be pricey, but they’re double figures with tangible in-game perks. For collectors and racers alike, they’re likely to sell out fast.
💡 Player Tip
If you’re planning on going digital, grab a 512GB microSD Express card early. With Kirby Air Riders taking 25GB alone, plus other Switch 2 exclusives hovering around 30–40GB, your storage will vanish quicker than Kirby inhaling a Maxim Tomato.
