NeoWin reported on September 10 that Sony has officially launched the PlayStation Family app for Android and iOS, aiming to give parents greater control and flexibility over their children’s PlayStation gaming experience.
The new app centralizes parental control functions that were previously scattered across PS5, PS4, and the PlayStation website. Parents no longer need to access the console directly—instead, all management tools are now available on mobile.
Through PlayStation Family, parents can track their children’s playtime with daily and weekly activity reports, as well as receive real-time notifications to approve requests for extended gaming sessions or access to restricted content.
Time management settings allow parents to assign different playtime limits for each day of the week. While children can still purchase content from the PlayStation Store, the app introduces financial oversight features, including funding controls, balance checks, and monthly spending caps.

For households where multiple children share the same console, the app supports creating individual profiles, enabling personalized playtime and spending restrictions. It also offers robust content filtering to block exposure to violent, adult, or otherwise inappropriate content.
Sony’s blog highlights that PlayStation Family includes customizable filters and preset recommendations tailored to various age groups. Parents can also set limits on online features such as voice chat and user-generated content, while allowing exceptions for specific titles if desired.
The PlayStation Family app is now live on both the Apple App Store and Google Play. Early reactions have been mixed: while many parents welcome the dedicated app, some users question why these controls were not simply integrated into the existing PlayStation app.
