Sept 4 — After years at the top of Steam’s wishlist chart, Hollow Knight: Silksong has officially launched across all platforms at 10:00 p.m. time on September 4.

According to Modezone players, the Steam store began showing error messages immediately upon release, and as of this report, the issue has yet to be resolved. The game is now available on PS5, PS4, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and Steam, and it is also included in Microsoft’s Game Pass subscription at launch.
A sequel to the acclaimed Hollow Knight, the game is described as a hardcore action title. Players take on the role of Hornet, a deadly hunter, who ventures into a new kingdom, discovers powerful abilities, battles swarms of insects and beasts, and uncovers both ancient secrets and her own origins.
Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced in 2019, but its release was delayed multiple times. In 2023, Team Cherry’s marketing and publishing lead Matthew Griffin revealed that the game had originally been planned for the first half of 2023, but was later postponed.
As one of the world’s most anticipated games, Silksong has held the number-one spot on Steam’s wishlist for years. However, due to its long absence of a confirmed release date and the repeated delays, fans jokingly nicknamed it “Silk Songbird” (a pun implying endless waiting).
In an interview with Bloomberg, Team Cherry explained that the extended development time was necessary to ensure the final product was complete and polished, emphasizing that the delay was not due to mismanagement.
