The company also confirmed that China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom will provide eSIM support for the iPhone Air, with specific timing subject to regulatory approval.

Apple’s Official Statement

The new iPhone Air features an ultra-thin and durable design, more resilient than any previous iPhone, with professional-grade performance, an innovative Center Stage front camera, a 48MP fusion camera system, and all-day battery life. We can’t wait for users to experience iPhone Air. We are working closely with regulatory authorities to bring it to China as soon as possible. The iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max will be available for pre-order today at 8 p.m. (Beijing time), and we will launch iPhone Air sales immediately once approval is granted.

Apple emphasized that it has been working hand-in-hand with both carrier partners and regulators. Currently, final approval is pending for iPhone Air’s release in China. Meanwhile, China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom are also awaiting eSIM licensing approval for smartphones to officially offer the iPhone Air to customers.

Several Chinese carriers have already expressed strong interest in the device. A China Mobile representative noted that eSIM smartphone services are already supported and that service activation details will be announced later. China Unicom confirmed eSIM support as well, though the start date remains undecided. Beijing Telecom clarified that eSIM is not exclusive to Unicom, confirming broader industry adoption.
